And now for the rest of the week at the PCC

A little excitement this week at work.
First I have to say I do lots of ordering of food at the PCC. I do the easy part. Misi gets to deal with all the vendors and do the hard part. (Talk to people). When I get finished ordering I have a different type of work to do. I get to scan documents into the computer. They have papers from earlier years and no place to store them so I get the pleasure of doing that work. We laugh because we say that Sister Mackie's job is to cut corners in the purchasing department. Technically I do cut corners. Sometimes I just remove the staples.

This whole project may take a few months or years to complete.

The other jobs we have are capturing wild animals. Pua was working late one night and heard strange noises in the attic. When she came the next morning in the trap that was set months ago she found this furry critter:
and here comes Bishop Fiu to the rescue.

He buried him in the trap. I think that is very inhumane. We didn't even get to give him a proper funeral. Cute furry little thing. Blaaaahhhh!

On the bright side I found some flowers that I haven't noticed before and some that were worth a second glance:

I don't know if you can tell by this picture but the trunks of these trees are red and they are not painted, either. These are a first for me.

Then comes another P-day. This Saturday we went to Tahiti Village to the Tahitian Devotional. Much of it was in French and then some English. They sang the songs in French and then in English. It was very beautiful. Merci to the Tahitian Village.

These are a few of the girl's that work in the Tahitian village. The taller girl in the back came because a friend wanted her to come to Hawaii. She didn't particularly want to come but her friend didn't want to come alone so she said yes. When she got to the airport her friend never showed up so she decided to come alone. She had also never danced before and didn't speak much English. Guess what she does now? I would think that would take a lot of courage.

President Grace also talked more on Good, Better, Best.

Sunday brought changes. Graduation and summer vacation left our ward (8th) and the (5th) quite small so we have joined together as one until summer is over and school starts again. Now I have lots of new names to learn. It is quite confusing at times. We change bishoprics each week. 8th takes charge one week and 5th takes charge the next week.

Life Throws a Surprise

Life always decides to throw in a surprise or two on the way to living.  In my case it wasn't me but my hale sister, Polly. It was Friday night, I was settling in for the night and everything was nice and quiet around the hale. I had the hale to myself, which is very rare, with four people and my hours such that someone is always home when I am.  They were all taking tickets when my other hale sister Raeola, called me and said that Polly was very sick and that she needed to go to emergency room. She had not been feeling well for the past week but not that sick.
I went and picked her up. We decided that she could make it to the emergency room at Castle in Kailua in case they had to do immediate surgery. I thought we would be there for hours just waiting to get her in. They admitted her right off and determined that it was her gall bladder. She was feeling better by then so the Dr. (Dr. Forny? who looked like a young surfer from the 60's) (Kristen, come on over), told her she could go home and make an appointment with a surgeon later in the week which she did.
She was scheduled for surgery the next Friday. She was stuck with me to take her in and you all know what an excellent nurse I am???? Ha! Ha! I just look around stricken with fear.
She was admitted about 2:00 on the 16th of June. The little demon (gall bladder) was removed. The Dr. said it was as big as an egg. I don't know if he meant humming bird, robin, chicken, goose or ostrich egg. She did very well and I took her home and we were home by about 10:00 pm.
If I had to go to the hospital that is a good one. Everyone there was so nice, polite, helpful and knowledgeable. Kristen e-mailed me and kept my spirits up while Polly was in surgery. Kevin even called and kept my mind off her surgery. The Lord knows that I don't do very well in hospitals. They are not my favorite places to be.
She is now happily recovering and will get to meet the "little demon" this week as the Dr. saved it for her.

Castle Medical Center. Below. I don't know what they mean by one way after this point? It made me a little nervous to let Polly go? Ha! Ha!

Angie's Visit-I couldn't wait and now it is over.

Angie came and went like a fleeting moment. She was here and gone again. We did make the most of the time she had here. It took me five days to recover after she left. It is a lot like our time here on earth. We probably looked forward to coming for eons and then we got here did our best and will be gone on to the next part of our journey before we know it and it will feel like a fleeting moment. Hmm! A little philosophy there.

Angie arrived on Thurs the 25th and off we went in search of Duke's to eat. We spent the rest of the day in Honolulu and then came around the east side so she could see the view while it was still
daylight.

Friday morning we were up early and off for a walk on the beach. We met a new friend. His name is Wilson for short. I know he had one of those long Hawaiian names which I couldn't pronounce. He decided to tag along with us for the day and even stayed at the Marriott with us. I was worried he would have some other friends hanging out inside his mouth but he seemed not to have let anyone in.

Angie wanted to go visit some tide pools and I said we didn't have any. I had not seen a tide pool since I arrived. I guess I didn't go at the right time for the first morning we wandered through the rocks at Laie point and the tide was very low. We saw some interesting things in the tide pools that we didn't have.

After we visited the beach we decided to go have lunch at the PCC and explore all that was going on there. In Samoa we met Sister Alophipo and Sister Clawson. They braided us a crown and we wove a fish out of leaves. The Settlement invited us in and we watched the Canoe pageant on their front porch. They always treat me so nice at the Settlement and everywhere we go at the PCC. I love these doors that lead to Island Buffet and Prime Dining. The whole building is magnificent. I feel like a queen when I enter
these doors.
Here is another place that make you feel like a queen. This is across from the Marriott and leads to the beach. It feels like a soft carpet and it was rolled out just for us.

The best place to go in Laie is the temple. Here you also feel like a queen and favored daughters of our Heavenly Father.
                               .
We even look like Island princesses going to church on Sunday.

Tours of the island are always in order so that is what we did.

Beautiful view at one of the lookouts we stopped at.

A trip to Waimea falls was in order and of course I think I have seen every kind of flower on the island and then a different one pops up. Here goes-----

This is one of the trucks that we ate at during Angie's visit. Not my favorite but was an OK meal.

As with all good visits and with the best of days there comes and end. I always hate the good times to end and some days are so beautiful you carry them in your mind always.

And so I said goodbye to my beautiful daughter until we meet again.
I hope it will be soon but right now I have some work to finish right
                  here in Laie.
